Hi, this week in Social Studies we will be continuing our 'Alberta Regions' Video Conferencing project and focusing on our own region, the Grasslands. We will be practicing our presentation, as over the next couple of weeks, the grade 4 class will be presenting their region to both the Parland Region and Boreal Forest Region, via video conferencing (Nov.26 & Dec.2). The students viewed a presentation already from the Parkland Region and really enjoyed it.
I will be grading the students on their ability to work in groups, their output whether it be by a poster or skit, and presentation skills. On this report I graded the students on their ability to shown their knowledge in writing from this project (poster, explanation) and on next report card you will see your child's grading from their presentation and group effort. Thanks!

November-17: L.A.

Hi parents, after talking to a few of you on the phone I wanted to post a general statement of homework and tests that occur weekly in Language Arts. Your child should be bringing home a weekly spelling list at the beginning of the week, which concludes with a spelling test EVERY Friday. Also, there is a spelling booklet of the weekly words that we work on each week and if it is not done during class time and handed in that week, it is ALWAYS due the next school day (Monday, but this doesn't always happen due to days off, so sometimes it is Tuesday or Wednesday). Agendas should be also filled in with this information but that does not always happen, so hopefully this will help!
Reminder, 'Report Cards' come out on Friday and parent teacher interviews will take place next Wednesday and Thursday, Nov.26-27. I hope to see you there and discuss any issues and positive ones as well! Thanks!

14 November 2008

February 12, 2008

Here is an update on the rest of this week's activities.
Classes are normal for Wednesday.
Thursday - Happy St. Valentine's Day! Skiers and Snowboarders will meet at the school by 6:20 as the bus is leaving at 6:30. There is no room on the bus for parents, so all parents will need to arrange their own transportation. We will leave the hill about 3:00, so we should be back in Coaldale by about 5:15.
Friday - Spelling test on unit 15 words and spelling Unit 15 due, Handwriting - D and L due, and Trevor's Super Kid Letter. The students will have class time on Wednesday to still finish these tasks. We will have a Valentine's day party beginning with a pizza lunch at 11:40. Students are welcome to bring their cards tomorrow or Friday. We will also have a desk clean-up and locker cleanup before the week off school.
We return to school on Monday, February 25.

16 January 2008

Wednesday, Jan. 16

Wow! Wind, blizzard-like conditions and cold - winter can have a bitter edge. At school some of the students are finishing off some Super-kid letters they are behind on. Unfortunately, as this was past homework, they are catching up at recess breaks. Homework is a fact of school for most students. Our class policy is to give one day's grace if it was forgotten at home. But if it was forgotten or not done for 2 days, the student loses recess privileges until the work is completed.
Homework for this week:
Social - Test is on Thursday, Jan. 17. The students should have a study guide for Chapter 3.
Spelling - Unit 12 work is due and they will have a quiz on Friday, Jan 18. (compound words)
Handwriting - one page with H, K, and X is due on Friday, Jan. 18.
Superkid Letter to Lindsay- we work on this tomorrow morning, but the final product will also be due on Friday, Jan 18.

The students from Grades 4-9 watched a ski/snowboard presentation in period 8 today. The Grade 6-9 classes will have the chance to go skiing at Castle Mountain on Wednesday, Jan. 30. The Grade 4 and 5 classes will have the chance to go skiing on Wednesday, February 14, 2008. As this is Valentine's day, the Valentine's Day party will happen but it wil probably be on the 13 or the 15. We wil let you know as we know.

Have a warm evening.

11 January 2008

Finally, Friday, January 11

It seemed like a long week, but we made it.
Some of the students have homework over the weekend. This includes a journal entry and finishing Christian's Superkid letter. The journal entry is to write a paragraph about what they will remember about Christmas 2007 and to write a paragraph about their New Year's resolution. Each paragraph should have 5 sentences. Both are due on Monday.
Some students still have to finish Spelling Unit 11 and handwriting capital M and N.
Also some of the students said they would still like to make a donation to Holy Childhood Association. I will wait until Monday to send away the monies recieved at the school.
Have a great weekend!
