Hello Parents and Students,

On Tuesday, October 20, the Grade Four students will be having their Chapter One Test in Social Studies. This chapter is called "Explore The Land" and we have spent our time taking a look at the different geographic regions of our province.

Following is a guide for what the students will need to study:

Canadian Shield
Boreal Forest
Rocky Mountains

Parkland
Grassland
2. Know the cardinal and intermediate directions on a compass rose.

3. Give examples of a landform and describe what it looks like and how it was formed.

4.Use a scale to estimate a distance on a map and explain how you made your estimate.

5. Know how to explore different points of view on an issue.

6. Be able to describe how climate affects the quality of life in an area of Alberta.

The modified test will include:
1. Know about natural vegetation and landforms for 4 of the 6 geographic regions of Alberta. These regions are:
Canadian Shield
Boreal Forest
Rocky Mountains
Grassland
2. Know the cardinal directions on a compass rose.
3. Describe how glaciers created landforms.
4. Use a scale to estimate a distance on a map.

Math

We're refreshing our addition facts. These seem to be pretty good. I'm looking for them to get 55/55 three times to prove they know thier basic addition facts.

In multiplication we're working on 2 and 4 time tables. It's still not automatic for everyone. Keep practicing them at home.

Once a week they get a review booklet. It always comes out on Friday and is do on Wednesday.

We're also working on place value and understanding the meaning of numbers up to
10 000.
